Welcome to our Meet the 50 Team feature. This is where we get the lowdown on how the people at 50onRed get stuff done. This time we’re sitting down with Operations Manager, Alex Wooley.
Tell us about yourself and your role at 50onRed
I’ve been working at 50onRed for about a year and a half. I started as an ad trafficker for RTX and this year moved to Operations Manager for our InText, Search, and CPV Platform.
Day to day I work closely with our sales team and account managers, ensuring everything on Platform is running smoothly. We monitor all campaign and account approvals, help grow underdeveloped accounts, and provide assistance for any issues advertisers are having with our traffic or our UI.
How did you find yourself working in Ad Operations and ultimately, 50onRed?
In 2012, I began dabbling in affiliate marketing, which is when I fell in love with the fast changing and ever evolving internet marketing industry. I graduated from the same college program that our co-founder Stephen Gill had graduated from a few years prior, so I already knew about Steve and 50onRed prior to beginning my affiliate journey. Once I saw the company culture and the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest and best in the industry, I knew I had to work here. I had an interview and two weeks later, I was working in my dream job.
Tell us a little about the Ad Operations team at 50onRed.
First, let me say that I am extremely lucky to be a part of such an awesome team. Simply put, we are a big group of friends that get to work with each other everyday. We all have a lot of work responsibilities, but we all work hard together making sure RTX and Platform continue to grow each day. We truly live by the “work hard, play hard” motto. Not to mention, we all have solid hairdos =)
We hear you’re quite the golfer. Do you get out often to putt around with co-workers?
My golf game recently has been quite horrendous, but I still love hitting the links! This summer, I’ve spent more time hitting out of the woods than the fairways, but golf will always be my favorite pastime.
What’s the hardest part about your job?
With so many lines of communication between my colleagues and Platform advertisers, it’s easy to get pulled from one task to another. At any given time, I’m speaking to multiple people on Slack, Skype, and email, so it’s easy to lose focus on one task while looking into another. I’ve had to learn to quickly prioritize my tasks and solve issues in the most productive sequence possible.
If you aren’t able to wear “multiple hats” and manage both your time and priorities, you’ll quickly get overwhelmed.
What’s the number one skill a job seeker should have to qualify for a job like yours?
They need to be able to multitask in an extremely fast paced environment. In my position, I’m pulled in several different directions that range from dealing with finance issues to optimizing advertiser campaigns. If you aren’t able to wear “multiple hats” and manage both your time and priorities, you’ll quickly get overwhelmed.
As a Jersey boy, how do you like living in the city?
I grew up in the suburbs of South Jersey and never imagined the day would come where I’d be a city dweller. Now that I live in the city, I absolutely love Philadelphia. Sitting in traffic and getting on 2 trains everyday was exhausting, so a few months into my employment, my girlfriend and I packed up our pups and moved to the city. We live in a quiet neighborhood in Center City, and my commute now is a 15 minute walk into the office each day. At this point, I’m spoiled and can’t imagine having a long commute into work. In my opinion, a short walk to the office is a perfect start to each day. It gives me time to clear my head and relax a bit before getting into the fast paced workday.
